How to recognise you need rodent control
Rats and mice are usually active at night. However, if you see them during the day, then you know you probably have a big rodent problem. Other signs to look for include:
- Thin, cylindrical black droppings for rats, and very small droppings for mice
- Signs of gnawing on household objects, wood, fruit and vegetables, and electrical wiring
- Greasy marks along walls or skirting boards where rats and mice have travelled
- Holes where rats and mice have burrowed under debris or close to sheds
- Scratching or squeaking noises, particularly at night, usually means you have rats in the roof
Rat control
Rats breed very quickly, so proper rat control is essential when you suspect you have a rat problem. Traps are ineffective when you have a lot of rats: unfortunately they have an excellent sense of smell, and so will know not to go near a trap that has already killed a rat. Standard rat bait is unsafe for children and pets. For safe, effective extermination, you really need a rodent control professional.
Mice control
Like with rats, professional mice control is essential if you suspect you have a problem. Because mice breed so quickly, if you try a DIY fix you’ll end up with a much larger mice problem before you know it.
